ENTRY CATEGORIES

Our Advanced Research Team have made an amazing discovery! It turns out that you don’t need a brand new 4×4 in order to cross Africa, and actually, it’s a lot more fun (and easier to fix when you break down) if you join us in an older vehicle!

In order to not only facilitate, but to encourage this, we have created various different categories, each with their own cost per vehicle (no additional costs per person). Click on your category of interest to find out more!

Motorbike | £999

The original vehicle for seeing the world.  Honestly, this is a tough choice.  We’ve seen the potholes in Mozambique, and the mud in Tanzania which will swallow most small bikes, so if you are going solo on the back of your trusty steed you might want to select more GS Adventure, and less Honda 125 – but we are not here to tell you how to do things!  Bikers mad enough to join us will enjoy a highly discounted team rate.

Classic Vehicle | £1,249

What constitutes a Classic Vehicle? This is a topic which has been discussed at the pub across the road from the Africa Rally HQ many times, and as we don’t conform to / couldn’t agree on a standard definition we’ve come up with this. A classic vehicle must be older than the oldest member of your team! After the Motorbike and Random Categories, this will be the most discounted option.

Car | £1,399

This will cover everything which is not a 4×4, and doesn’t fall into the Classic Vehicle category. There is still a lot of fun to be had on the road in a “normal” car, so there’s no judgement for any team that opts for this approach. A great option if you are on a budget, want something which will work, but that you don’t mind breaking and bodging along the way.

4×4 | £1,499

There are some fantastically luxurious 4×4 adventure vehicles on the road in Africa, some of which you can even rent for the event from our Partners Page. This category allows you to cruise over the bumps in the road, keep cool with working air conditioning, and maybe even utilise roof tents to keep out of the way of the wildlife, but beware the newer the vehicle the harder it is to fix at the side of the road when something goes wrong! To pre-empt the question as well, if you’ve got an old 4×4 (we love Landys) that you want to use, which meets the requirements of the Classic Vehicle Category, then we’ll let you enter under that one as well.

Random | £995

This category is reserved for a very special type of Explorer. The type who has already decided to pack the Hawaiian shirts and join us on this event before even reading this. The Random Vehicle category includes stuff like Fire Engines, Milk Floats, Ambulances, Ice Cream Vans, and anything weird and wonderful which you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find in the middle of the African savanna. Any team can submit their vehicle to this category, but inclusion is at the discretion of The Africa Rally management team. Needless to say, the entry fee for this team category is the lowest of the lot. We tip our collective hats to anyone who signs up under this one.
